a wedding cake

it's been a while since i blogged and it's good to be back :)

it was our wedding anniversary last wednesday and i baked a cake to celebrate the event. when we got married a few years ago, the wedding was held in a far far away province in the philippines where i don't know a single soul except for my family. see my parents have just discovered the place around that time and adopted it as their new home. so we were forced to held the wedding there.

since the place is very rural, there wasn't a decent bake shop around. the nearest one would be about 2 hours away. the only cake available was the one offered by the clerk in the church where the ceremony was held. so we had no choice but order from her. and boy, it was the worst cake i've ever seen. i don't even remember the flavor. all i know was that it was a white cake with about 2 layers. and the only decorations were flowers. supposedly fresh, but it wasn't. and a fountain. that wasn't working.

and that was only the cake. i don't want to talk about the whole wedding itself. brings back bad memories. i've always promised that in one of our future wedding anniversaries, we'd definitely have one grand celebration to make up for the bad one. i intend to have a celebration with good memories, too.

anyway, for now, i'd start practicing on making a really beautiful wedding cake. and here's my first attempt.

a different craft - baking

for quite a while now, i've been trying my hands into baking. i wouldn't say i'm already very good at it. but i can say, i'm not too bad. i'm still learning :)

today my friend's son will be one month old. here in singapore, it is customary to give away cakes on the first month of a child. well, okay that is customary for the chinese, and we're just copying it hehehe

my friend, jcm, was such a darling to let me try and do the cakes for her baby. instead of the usual cake, i made cupcakes for her.

new office - new background

i just moved to a new room at work. my company's been renovating and expanding in the past few months. i think the design of my department's workplace is too masculine. well, we did had a chance to choose how we wanted our new office to look. but out of the 18 people in the department, there's only 5 girls. so, that explains the masculine look.

anyway, at least with the masculine look comes this black carpet which i thought would be a nice background for my photos hehe see, it's too black that it's hard to see the black helix swarovski crystal in these photos ...

this bracelet is made of jade, helix swarovski crystals, and pearls. well, at least, i'd like to think that it's jade. and according to acm, it's jade. but i'm not too sure, though. not that i don't trust acm (she's the one who bought the jades for me). i'm simply not sure. i borrowed a book about gemstones/semi-precious stones last week. and the photos of the aventurines made me doubt these stones.

so, what do you think, jade or aventurine?

presents from home

my bff, acm, went for a short holiday in the philippines last christmas. when she came back, guess what she brought for me? lots and lots and lots of materials for my craft hahaha

she's so nice to get everything that i asked her to get for me. imagine, she braved her way to divisoria just to get the stuff i asked her to buy. i wouldn't even dare go there myself now after being away for too long.

my brother also sent some more materials for me as his christmas presents. so, that means lots and lots and lots of materials :)

and here's a bracelet that i made from the freshwater pearls that acm brought and the sterling silver wire that my brother gave as a christmas present ...

another black affair

i've been meaning to post these photos since last week but was either too busy or too lazy to post lately hahaha i was too busy last week because ebd and acm were on holidays and i had to take over ebd's work. i've been too lazy since last friday because it's my turn to take a not-so-long vacation. and i'm making sure i'm really well rested hahaha not too easy though because there are a lot of things that i planned to do once i'm on vacation that i can't really decide on which one to do first. argh!

anyway, here's another right-angle-weave bracelet made of hematite and swarovski crystals. hematite, which is also known as bloodstone, is said to have the powers of healing, alertness, and passion.

it's a nice bracelet but it's a bit heavy though. it's because of the hematite which is a hard stone that is actually an iron ore.
