care bears

lately, i've been hooked to the food network's food network challenges, specifically the cake challenges. it has inspired me to do more and get better in cake decorating. and indeed it has inspired me to be more ambitious with my cakes.

my latest creation was requested by a friend for the 1st bday of her little girl. and alas, she asked for a care bears-themed cake instead of a princess cake. i guess i can say this is my most ambitious cake, so far.

and this is my biggest critic ... and i guess it's obvious she's also my biggest fan =D

another princess cake

my college mate, che, who happens to be in singapore, too, asked me to bake a cake and cupcakes for her 1-yr old eunice. as the birthday celebrant is a girl, what else would the theme be? of course, it's another princess cake!

teacher's day 2010

for this year's teachers' day, i baked sugar cookies for my kids' teachers. i got this recipe from the flour pot cookie recipe book that i borrowed one time from the library. i so loved the book that i kept the book for i think about 1 month over due =D

the sugar cookies are so yummy and the smell is just so heavenly that when the cookies were baking, the kids went out of their rooms one by one. i was afraid they'd finish all the cookies and we'd be left with nothing to give to their teachers =)

the key at 21

a week after zia's bday, her sister ann asked me if i can also bake cupcakes for her friend who is celebrating her 21st birthday ... ann is such a nice girl so how can i say no?

since it's a 21st bday, ann requested for a 2 batches of red cupcakes topped with a white key and the number 21 ...

i really love how this turned out ... it's not easy to make a red fondant ... it will take tons of red color paste to achieve a good red and that would definitely compromise the taste of the fondant ... and i don't want that, of course ...

so, with the pinkish fondant that i made, i painted it with a mixture of red edible glitters and almond extract ... and the result is perfect! i love it! and i also love the smell of the almond extract.
